The 1717 center chimney house in the historic villages and the subdivisions built in the early 2000s were piped decades apart, so a failed supply pipe can show up in very different homes. The crew's response does not change: stop the water, extract, open the wall and dry.
What happens after the valve closes
Once the supply is off, the crew extracts standing water and checks the wall, the ceiling below and the floor with meters and a thermal camera. Drywall and insulation that soaked through are cut out, the framing is opened to air, and drying equipment starts running.
- Water is shut off at the main or the fixture valve
- Power to wet outlets and fixtures is switched off
- Ceiling openings relieve trapped water below
- Subfloors get dried, not just surface wiped
