Appliance leaks are slow and quiet. A cracked washer hose or a loose dishwasher fitting can feed water under flooring for weeks, and the first sign is often a soft floor, a musty smell or a stain on the ceiling below.
Finding the wet path
The crew pulls the appliance, checks the supply connections and runs meters across the floor, toe kicks and adjoining walls. A thermal camera shows cool, damp areas that are invisible from the surface, which is how a leak under a dishwasher gets traced to the cabinet beside it.
- Shut the appliance's supply valve.
- Unplug the appliance before pulling it out.
- Photograph the hose, the fitting and the wet floor.
- Replace rubber washer hoses with braided ones.
